This is what we point to when someone asks for a great game..
Amanda again- this one is SO much fun and I can’t wait to tell you about it!
Is It Worth It?
SO worth it!! This game is for two or four people. You each are given rules as to how to decorate a house. Your rules are usually opposite of the other persons, and you can only move one piece of decor at a time without speaking anything other than affirming or negative comments (think: ‘That lamp is hideous!’ or ‘that wall color matches perfectly!’). It’s fun because while you are planning your next move the other person is unknowingly sabotaging your previous one. It’s not a game for friends or couples that don’t get along- we joke this is the ‘game to play if you want divorced’.
What Are You Actually Doing?
You choose a scenario envelope and set the house up based on the directions. Then you each get your rules and go to work. You have 30 turns to get the house decorated according to your rules or you fail. Every so many turns, you share one of your rules with the other person to help out. If you play with 4 people, you have the bonus of sharing different rules with different people- so if Eric keeps changing the wall color in one round, I’ll share that rule with him while telling Doug to leave one lamp in each room on another round. It’s strategic, chaotic, frustrating, and exciting all at once.
The Loot
This game literally says ‘a game of passive aggressive cohabitation’ and it’s not lying. The snide comments you make to each other as they mess with your stuff is hilarious. We giggle in one turn and sneer in the next. It’s easy to set up, easy to learn, and entertaining for all. We haven’t missed completing a scenario- yet.
The Good Stuff
Easy to learn and set up
Clear instructions and rules
Options for both 2 and 4 player games
Feel good endings (sometimes) guaranteed
Legacy-style game so the more you play, the more challenging it gets.
The Catch
Can only be played with 2 or 4 players, not 3 or 5+
Contains a set amount of scenarios- once they’re played there’s no repeating.
It does seem as though there’s a companion app to see daily scenarios to continue to the fun
There is the chance for real frustration and fighting between players.
The set up is a little involved since there’s a lot of pieces to sort and separate before you can begin playing
This Game Is Calling To…
Couples
Friend groups
Gamers who enjoy legacy-style gaming
Would We Play This Again?
I wish we could play this daily, I enjoy it that much. But with the limited number of scenarios, we are careful about how often we pull it out. I recommend this game to a lot of friends who enjoy board games and will continue to play until Floodgate stops producing scenarios to accomplish.
